It is a priority to know the medical staff and their accreditations before undergoing a plastic, aesthetic or bariatric procedure to avoid health risks, explained Dr. Hermes Avila Pelayo, certified Plastic Surgeon.
The doctor informed that in this city about 700 surgeries are performed, being Tijuana the second place in the world where most of these procedures are performed.
Avila Pelayo emphasized that there are about 80 certified plastic surgeons in the state, which is why it is important that people who wish to undergo this type of surgery avoid falling into the wrong hands so as not to put their health at risk.
Any establishment of this type must operate under the regulations and must have the necessary permits, which must be visible to the public, such as the title and specialty license.
In addition to the certification by the Mexican Board of Plastic, Aesthetic and Reconstructive Surgery, as well as having trained personnel in different areas such as nursing, laboratory, psychology and administration.
All of this constitutes a right on the part of patients and their families, who can ask to see the title and ID of the medical personnel who will attend them.
Likewise, the patient must have a clinical record from the beginning of treatment and, above all, clear information about the care he/she is going to receive, as well as possible side effects.
"An important part is to know that patients have an obligation to obey medical instructions, especially once they have been discharged from the hospital.
Like taking medications as indicated and explaining to the staff, truthfully, if they have taken any action that is contraindicated for a speedy recovery, the physician pointed out.
Hermes Avila, explained that patients from other countries prefer to be treated in Tijuana because of the warmth with which they are treated, in addition to the competitiveness in costs, where they can be between 40 to 80% lower than in the United States, for example.
The specialist indicated that it is important for the population to make an informed decision before any plastic surgery procedure and to know even the smallest detail of the Hospital or the staff that will attend them, as well as to have the confidence to avoid conflicts with the result of the procedure.
